LEARNING TO LEAD
The Access Foundation knows that it’s imperative that children learn leadership skills early in life, so we have devised two leadership programs, one for middle-schoolers, and the other for high school students, where they can learn skills they won’t find in a traditional classroom setting. Students who complete our leadership programs face the world with the confidence that they can direct change in their communities and make the world a better place.
The Leadership Academy
The Leadership Academy is designed for high school students in the Saint Louis, Metropolitan area. We partner with local high schools to deliver content that emphasizes building character and life skills, specifically in the areas of goal-setting, handling peer pressure, conflict resolution, personal and financial awareness, and community service. In addition, other workshops delivered to the students include Alternatives to College, Careers in STEM, Coding, Preparing for College, Self-Awareness and Self-Assessment, Goal-Setting, Building Your Brand, Life in the Military, Resume Writing, and Interviewing.
Jr. Leadership Academy
Similar to the Leadership Academy, the Junior Leadership Academy is designed for underserved middle school students and immerses them in experiences that build their character and emphasizes what they are learning in school. Through lectures, discussions, and field trips, the program nurtures students to grow and become leaders in their communities. The intent is to prepare students to make good decisions in their scholastic and professional careers, as they learn, group decision making, problem solving, higher-level thinking skills, and proper role modeling. Student emerge from the program knowing that their actions and choices impact their communities and that they have strengths, values, and talents to find solutions.
